DESCRIPTION
Mix the elegance of Ruby, the power and speed of a well-designed, lightweight MVC framework, and more than a little creative genius (Thanks Ezra!), and you get Merb. Merb is a new web application framework designed from the ground up to be fast and flexible.
Merb is all about speed—faster applications, shorter development cycles, and easier deployment. It works with virtually any ORM, JavaScript library, or template language, and provides a tight central base that can be extended easily through plugins.
Merb in Action brings Merb to life, providing a concise tutorial packed with useful examples that will have you developing effectively with Merb in no time. In part I, you'll start with a quick tour of Merb's core model and functionality. Following a series of straightforward examples, you'll apply Merb to common web development tasks—forms, data access, talking to servers, and so forth
Then, you'll move into part II, a "motorcycle manual" for Merb, where you'll dive deep into the internals. You'll learn to write plugins and make use of the modular nature of Merb.
WHAT'S INSIDE:
- Master Merb's built-in features
- Take advantage of third-party support packages for ActiveRecord, DataMapper, and Sequel ORMs.
- Extend Merb by building your own RubyGems-based plugins
- Add application features using JavaScript libraries like jQuery
- Integrate Merb with existing applications
This book assumes a basic knowledge of the Ruby language and web development, but you'll be able to keep up even if you've never used Merb.
